NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's tennis team joins the football team in Boulder, Colo., this weekend as it opens the fall season Friday, Sept. 28, at the Colorado Invitational.
The invitational, which will be played Friday through Sunday, includes a singles and doubles draw. The singles draw, which has not been set, is formatted so each player will compete in at least two matches.
Oklahoma has eight Sooners entered in the singles draw including returners Christi Baxley, Rachael Cox, Chelsea Orr, Elena Antakova, and Brittany Baldy. Newcomers Ana-Maria Constantinescu, Maria Kalashnikova and Tara Eckel will compete for the Sooners as well.
"We are excited to get the fall season started," said head coach Mark Johnson. "It will be good to begin competing."
The team begins play Friday morning at 10 a.m. CST with a round of doubles, followed by two rounds of singles in the afternoon. On Saturday, Colorado has set up the draw where only one round will be played in the morning before the teams break for the day to attend the OU vs. Colorado football game.
"I am glad the girls will be able to go to the football game," said Johnson. "It will be a good team outing."
Results for the tournament will be posted throughout the weekend on SoonerSports.com.
