TULSA, Okla. - Freshman Ana-Maria Constantinescu advanced to the finals of the ITA Regional Championships Saturday.
The Sooner, now 8-1 on the fall season, advanced to the semi-finals after a straight set win over Arkansas' Nanar Airpetian 6-1, 6-1.
"Ana-Maria played very well from start to finish," said head coach Mark Johnson. "She never let up."
Constantinescu then faced WSU's Stephani Dalmico in the semi-finals, picking up another straight set victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Tomorrow's finals match will be played at 9 a.m. and will be the freshman's second appearance in a collegiate tournament finals.
"I am very pleased with how Ana-Maria has played," said Johnson. "She has adjusted to the college level quickly."
Constantinescu paired with senior Chelsea Orr in the doubles bracket to defeat the no. 2 seeded Kansas pair of Elizaveeta Avdeeya and Edina Horvath, 8-2
The Sooner pair then fell 8-3 in the semi-finals to the no. 3 seeded duo of Ela Kalunder and Aurelija Misevcuite of Arkansas.
In the consolation bracket quarterfinals Oklahoma's Maria Kalashnikova defeated the seven seeded Camilla Belassi of Colorado, 6-2, 0-6, 12-10.
She then fell in the semi-finals to DU's Anette Aksdal 6-2, 6-4.
"I was pleased with Maria's play, said Johnson. "There are some things to improve on but overall she had a great showing against some strong players."
