Sooners Advance at ITA Regional

TULSA, Okla. - Sooners Chelsea Orr and Ana-Maria Constantinescu will continue to represent the Sooners at the ITA Regional Championship as they advance to the second round of the main draw.

Constantinescu, who is 4-1 on the fall season with her only loss to teammate Orr, started the day Thursday with a three set victory over Oral Robert's Emily Arkel. She defeated Arkel 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Orr continued her undefeated senior season increasing her record to 5-0. She advanced to the second round with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Stephanie Jasper of MSU.

"Both Chelsea and Ana-Maria played great," said head coach Mark Johnson. "I was pleased with their performance."

Freshman Maria Kalashnikova, who won two matches in the qualifying draw to advance to the main draw, was defeated in the first round by Nebraska's Imke Reimers. She fell in straight sets 7-6, 6-2.

Oklahoma also has two teams entered in the doubles bracket, which began Thursday afternoon. Constantinescu and Orr combined efforts to defeat Tulsa's Alexandrea Kichoutkin and Carla Zabaleta 8-3.

The Sooner duo of Christi Baxley and Tara Eckel advanced in the doubles draw defeating the Missouri pair of Maurren Modesto and Raquel Wagner 8-1.

Oklahoma will continue play Friday morning at 9 a.m., with two rounds of singles play, followed by one round of doubles.
