NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's tennis team will head to Tulsa Wednesday, Oct. 17, for the ITA Regional Championships. The Sooners last played in the ColoradoInvitational in Boulder, Colo., Sept. 28-30, where senior Chelsea Orr and freshman Ana-Maria Constantinescu faced off in the finals, with Orr winning in three sets.
The Regional Championships will kick-off Wednesday morning with the qualifying draw. Christi Baxley, Maria Kalashnikova, Tara Eckel and Elena Antakova will represent Oklahoma in the qualifying draw. Sixteen individuals from the qualifying draw will advance to the 48-player main draw which will begin Thursday. In order to advance, each player will have to win two matches.
Orr and Constantinescu have already been placed in the main draw based on their fall results thus far. The duo will also combine for the main doubles draw which will begin Friday morning. Baxley and Eckel will join them in the doubles draw.
"We are looking forward to competing again," said head coach Mark Johnson. "Colorado was a good start for us. I am excited to test the team again against these other teams."
