NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU men's tennis team picked up its second win of the season against UT-Pan American last night in Fort Worth, Texas. The two teams squared off at 9 p.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center located on the nearby Texas Christian University campus.
The Sooners were successful in all six singles matches last night. No doubles matches were played.
With three of the four newcomers competing at the No1, 3 and 4 spots, the young netters have provided a spark for Oklahoma. Sophomore Rob Mackenzie and freshmen Vaclav Kucera and Andrei Daescu are all undefeated in singles play and have picked up big wins.
In the ITA Central Regional Daescu defeated No. 3 Ivan Puchkarov an easy 6-2, 6-1, and Kucera battled Daniel Byrnes for a 6-3, 6-3 win.
The victory over the Broncs was Oklahoma's final away game leading up to the season opener. The Sooners return to action at the Greens Country Club in Oklahoma City Friday, Feb. 2. Oklahoma will square off against Southern Illinois at 7:15 p.m.
