NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team will travel to Tulsa on Sunday to face Memphis in its fifth match of the spring season. Oklahoma enters the weekend with a 2-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark in regional competition.
All four seniors, Tommy Garrison, Lee Gregg, Alexei Ivanov and Matt Long, will be competing for the No. 46 Sooners. Junior Marek Velicka will lead the team at the No. 1 singles spot, while freshmen Sergey Avdeyev and Cale Planck will also compete in singles action. Sophomore Ryan Thomas will play in his first match of the spring season, teaming up with Gregg in doubles play.
No. 75 Memphis is 2-1 in the spring, with its only loss to No. 23 Oklahoma State on Saturday. The last meeting between the Sooners and Tigers was in 1979, when the Tigers defeated the Sooners, 5-1.

Oklahoma Drops 6-1 Loss to Ohio State
The Sooners dropped a disappointing match to No. 18 Ohio State on Jan.
27 in Columbus, Ohio. No. 20 Alexei Ivanov and Marek Velicka lost a close doubles match to No. 2 Scott Green and Ross Wilson, 8-6. In singles play, Ohio State won five of the six matches. Ivanov was the only Sooner to win his match with a 7-6, 6-2, victory over Steven Moneke.
Sooners Ranked in Latest ITA Poll
Two Sooners are ranked in the top 75 in the nation in the Fila Collegiate Tennis rankings, released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Junior Marek Velicka, who was ranked No. 35 in singles in the fall, jumped to No. 23 in the latest poll. He leads the team with an 8-3 overall singles record. Velicka also ranks No. 20 with teammate, senior Alexei Ivanov, in the doubles poll.
Oklahoma dropped three spots in the latest team poll, falling from No. 43 to No. 46.
OU Welcomes Newcomers
Freshmen Sergey Avdevey and Cale Planck are two additions to the 2005-06 Sooner squad. Avdeyev, who hails from Moscow, Russia, ranked No. 3 in his age group in Kazakstan before coming to the United States. Planck, a native of Palm Desert, Calif., ranked in the top 10 players in Southern California and among the top 75 in the nation.
