Norman, Okla.- On Friday, Oklahoma's No. 9 seeded Monica Purice upset the No. 7 seed from Kansas State to advance to the quarterfinals where she faced No. 1 seeded Ela Kaluder of UA on Saturday.  It was a tough match for Purice who was defeated in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (4).

“Monica played really well,” said head coach Mark Johnson.  “Kaluder is a great player.  I thought Monica showed some good things.”

Rachel Cox, who was playing in the consolation bracket, also came up short in a hard fought match.  After losing the first set 6-2 to Kansas State's Natasha Vieria she came back and won the second set 6-2.  The match then went to a ten point super tie breaker for the third set where she lost 10-6.

“This tournament is always a great one,” said Johnson.  “We always see players that we will see again in the spring.  It is good practice for us and I thought the girls did well.”

Oklahoma will find out next week if they earned a spot in the National Indoor Singles and Doubles Championship.  As for now, they will continue to prepare for the spring season.
