Perianu and Saluri Selected for Second Straight NCAA Championships

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 19th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team is one of 64 teams selected to compete in the 2004 NCAA Women's Team Championships.
 
The Sooners will be hosting the first and second rounds at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman on May 15-16. Not since the 1996-97 season has an OU women's tennis team participated in back-to-back national tournaments.

NCAA Regional Tournament Central
 
 The Sooners (21-4) face regional opponent and 47th-ranked Tulsa (16-8) on Sat., May 15 at 11 a.m., followed by 11th-ranked Tulane (25-1) who takes on Richmond (14-8) at 3 p.m.

 Ticket prices are as follows; adult one day pass, $8, student/youth pass, $5.

 The winner of Saturday's matches will face each other in the second round on Sun., May 16 at 1 p.m., for the right to advance to the final rounds of the NCAA Women's Championships to be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on May 20-23.

Perianu and Saluri Selected for Second Straight NCAA Championships
Senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) made OU history Thursday by becoming the only Sooner women's tennis player to be selected for three straight NCAA Individual Championships. In addition, Perianu and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) have been selected for the NCAA Doubles Championships for the second consecutive season. The NCAA Individual Championships will be played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on May 24-29.

Perianu and Saluri Honored by the Big 12
For the second consecutive season Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) was named the Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Year. She became OU's first tennis player to earn this honor since the Big 12 began play in 1997. She also was named to her third All Big 12 singles team as well as pairing up with junior Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) for All-Big 12 doubles team honors for the second year in a row.

Fifth-ranked Perianu, who is on a 17-match winning streak, was undefeated in league action with a 13-0 record, which earned her a second straight Big 12 No. 1 Singles Position title. Perianu was the only Big 12 player this season to be ranked in the top 20 in both singles and doubles and owns an overall season record of 33-4. Her career winning percentage of .891 is the best in Oklahoma women's tennis history.

 The duo of Perianu and Saluri ranks 17th in the nation in the latest ITA rankings and owns an overall record of 19-10.

Sooners End Run in Semi-final of Big 12 Championships
 The Oklahoma women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament before being eliminated by eventual tournament champions Texas A&M, 4-2. The Sooners battled the 17th-ranked Aggies down to the final two singles matches.  In quarterfinal action, OU handed sixth seed Missouri a 4-1 loss.
