Women's Tennis Concludes Team Season

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma concluded the team season last week with an impressive record of 22-5, the most wins since the 1993-94 team went 24-3, and placed 3rd in the Big 12 with a 10-3 mark.
 
The Sooners also hosted the Big 12 Championships for the first time at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center and for the second season in a row hosted the NCAA Regional Championships. OU made it to the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament, beating Missouri, 4-1 in the quarterfinals.
 
In regionals, the 20th-ranked Sooners dominated Tulsa in the first round, 4-1, and went on to narrowly fall to No. 11 Tulane, 4-2 in the second round.

Perianu and Saluri Set for Second Straight NCAA Championships
Senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) made OU history last week by becoming the only Sooner women's tennis player to be selected for three straight NCAA Individual Championships. In addition, Perianu and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) have been selected for the NCAA Doubles Championships for the second consecutive season. The NCAA Individual Championships will be played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on May 24-29.

Perianu, Saluri, Baker and Griffin Honored by the Big 12
For the second consecutive season Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) was named the Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Year. She became OU's first tennis player to earn this honor since the Big 12 began play in 1997. She also was named to her third All Big 12 singles team as well as pairing up with junior Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) for All-Big 12 doubles team honors for the second year in a row.
 
Fifth-ranked Perianu, who is on a 20-match winning streak, was undefeated in league action with a 13-0 record, which earned her a second straight Big 12 No. 1 Singles Position title. Perianu was the only Big 12 player this season to be ranked in the top 20 in both singles and doubles and owns an overall season record of 33-4. Her career winning percentage of .891 is the best in Oklahoma women's tennis history.
 
The duo of Perianu and Saluri ranks 17th in the nation in the latest ITA rankings and owns an overall record of 19-10.
 
Junior Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) and freshman Gabby Baker (Gold Coast, Australia) captured the 2004 Big 12 No. 3 doubles title, with a 9-2 record against league opponents. Baker and Griffin finshed off the regular season with an impressive overall record of 16-3.

Braver, Griffin and Perianu Named to Academic All-Big 12 Teams
For the second consecutive year Oklahoma's Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.), Beth Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) and Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) were named to the Academic All-Big 12 team as announced by the league office.
 
Braver and Griffin, both juniors, earned first team honors while Perianu, a senior, was a second team selection.
 Braver and Griffin were also named ITA Academic All-Americans last year and have been apart of two ITA Academic All-American teams at OU.
 
Braver earned special recognition as she was one of only three Big 12 women's tennis players to recieve a 4.00 grade point average, either cumulative or over the last two semesters. Kansas State's Jessica Simosa and Oklahoma State's Ines Furtmayer were the other two player's to recieve the honor.
