Richmond and Tulane enter regionals after winning their respective conferences, while Oklahoma and Tulsa both fell in the semifinals of their conference championships.
Led by fifth ranked senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Perianu), Oklahoma looks to improve on an already impressive year. Perianu was recently named the 2004 Big 12 Player of the Year, and Big 12 No. 1 singles position champion, both, for the second consecutive season.
Perianu was undefeated in Big 12 play with a perfect record of 13-0 and was the only player in the conference to be ranked in the top 20 of both the singles and doubles polls this season. In addition, Perianu was selected for her third straight NCAA Singles Championships and second consecutive NCAA Doubles Championships with partner Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa).
The pair are currently ranked 17th in the nation. The Sooners also boast the 2004 Big 12 No. 3 doubles champions of Gabby Baker (Gold Coast, Australia) and Beth Griffin (Amarillo, Texas). The duo claimed the title with a spring record of 16-3 and a 9-2 mark in the Big 12.
