Women's Tennis Set To Host Colorado

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 18th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team (14-3, 3-2, Big 12) returns home this week to take on Big 12 opponent Colorado (8-7, 4-3, Big 12) on Sunday April 11, at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Play begins at 10 a.m., and admission is free.

Last Time Against Colorado
Oklahoma and Colorado last met in the spring of 2003. The Buffaloes upset the Sooners, 4-3, in Boulder.

Sooners Defeat Kansas and Kansas State
Oklahoma concluded a sucessful Kansas roadtrip this week as they defeated Kansas State and Kansas, 6-1. Against Kansas State, OU claimed the doubles point and five of six singles matches. Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania),  Irina Lykina (Kazan, Russia), Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa), Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) and Joi-lee Beachler (Oklahoma City) all posted singles victories for the Sooners. Against Kansas, the Sooners swept the doubles and took five of six singles matches in straight sets.  

Perianu Moves Up To No. 5
Senior standout Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) moved up one spot in the latest ITA rankings to No. 5 as released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week. Perianu is now 13-1 on the season  and 5-0 in the Big 12 at No. 1 singles, including wins over eight nationally-ranked players. Most recently Perianu defeated 11th-ranked Petra Dizar of Texas, 6-0, 6-1, and 16th-ranked Jessica Roland of Texas A&M, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

Sooner Spring Statistics
Several Sooners own dominant records so far this spring. Freshman Irina Lykina (Kazan, Russia) is now 11-4 on the season, while sophomore Joi-lee Beachler (Oklahoma City) has pushed her spring record to 7-2 . In doubles, junior Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) and freshman Irina Lykina (Kazan, Russia) own an impressive record of 11-3 at No.2. OU's duo of freshman Gabby Baker (Gold Coast, Australia) and junior Beth Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) hold a record of 10-3 this spring at No.3.

OU To Host Big 12 Championships
Oklahoma will host the 2004 Men's and Women's Big 12 Tennis Championships at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Tournament action begins Fri., April 30, and runs through Sun., May 2. Ticket prices are as follows: All session four day pass, $15, single session adult pass, $5, and single session youth/student pass, $2.
