Womens Tennis Players Named to Academic All-Big 12 Teams

NORMAN, Okla. -- For the second consecutive year Oklahoma's Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.), Beth Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) and Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) were named to the Academic All-Big 12 team as announced by the league office Wednesday. Braver and Griffin, both juniors, earned first team honors while Perianu, a senior, was a second team selection.
Braver and Griffin were also named ITA Academic All-Americans last year and have been apart of two ITA Academic All-American teams at OU.
Braver earned special recognition as she was one of only three Big 12 women's tennis players to recieve a 4.00 grade point average, either cumulative or over the last two semesters. Kansas State's Jessica Simosa and Oklahoma State's Ines Furtmayer were the other two player's to recieve the honor.
The Big 12 named 49 women to the first team and 12 to the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better grade point average, while the second-team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-ahtletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of acdemic residence.
