This Week in Sooner Women's Tennis

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Bedlam series presented by the Bank of Oklahoma and your Oklahoma Ford Dealers between 18th-ranked Oklahoma (17-3, 6-2, Big 12) and Oklahoma State (6-12, 1-7, Big 12) will take place on Thurs., April 22, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.

Play begins at 2 p.m. and admission is free.

Last Time Against OSU
Oklahoma last met Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. The Sooners fell to the Cowgirls, 4-2, who then went on to win the 2003 Big 12 title.

Sooners Defeat Baylor and Texas Tech
Oklahoma claimed its 10th win over a ranked opponent and moved into third place in the Big 12 standingsafter defeating No. 43 Baylor, 4-3, in a thrilling contest at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. Before a rowdy Baylor crowd, freshman Irina Lykina (Kazan, Russia) was the match winner for the Sooners. Lykina fought off leg cramps in the third set to defeat Baylor's Daniela Covello in a third set tie-break, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (0). Oklahoma then travelled to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech. The Sooners swept Texas Tech, 7-0, winning the doubles point and taking all six singles matches.

Perianu's Singles Streak Continues
Fifth-ranked senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) pushed her winning streak to 12 last week as she won singles matches against Baylor and Texas Tech. Perianu is now 16-1 on the season and 8-0 in the Big 12 at No. 1 singles, including wins over nine nationally-ranked players. Most recently Perianu defeated Baylor's 41st-ranked Carolin Walter, 7-6 (3), 6-4, and looks to repeat her Big 12 No. 1 position title.

Oklahoma To Play Iowa State In Rescheduled Match
The Sooners will host the Cyclones on Sat., April 24 at the Headington Family Tennis Center at 2 p.m and admission is free. The match was postponed earlier in the season due to inclement weather in Ames, Iowa and Iowa State was unable to travel to Norman.

OU To Host Big 12 Championships
Oklahoma will host the 2004 Men's and Women's Big 12 Tennis Championships at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Tournament action begins Fri., April 30, and runs through Sun., May 2. Ticket prices are as follows: All session four day pass, $15, youth/student all session pass, $6, single session adult pass, $5, and single session youth/student pass, $2.
