Women's Tennis Heads to Kansas For Big 12 Action

This Week In Women's Tennis
 The 15th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team (12-3, 1-2, Big 12) heads north this week to continue Big 12 action against Kansas State (4-8, 0-4, Big 12) on Sat., April 3 in Manhattan and Kansas (4-10, 2-2, Big 12) on Mon., April 5 in Lawrence. Both matchs begin at 12 p.m.

Last Time Against Kansas and Kansas State
 Oklahoma last met Kansas and Kansas State in the spring of 2003 at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners defeated Kansas State 5-2 and Kansas 7-0.

Sooners Defeat Tulsa, Fall to UT and Texas A&M
 Oklahoma had mixed results last week as they defeated No.55 Tulsa, 5-2, but fell to No. 11 Texas, 4-3, and No. 16 Texas A&M, 5-2. The Sooners were strong in doubles against Tulsa winning the doubles point and four of the six singles. Against Texas, OU lost the doubles point but fought hard to take three of the six singles, but lost the last two singles matches in three sets. The Sooners came back 13 hours later to face Texas A&M. Oklahoma lost the doubles point and grabbed two of the singles matches but it was not enough against a tough Aggies team.

Oklahoma Moves Up In The ITA Rankings
 The Sooners moved up another two  spots in the latest ITA rankings to No. 15 as released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week. The rankings reflect wins over nine nationally-ranked teams this spring, including a recent win over No. 55 Tulsa.

Perianu Continues to Defend  No. 6 Ranking
 Senior standout Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) continues to defend her No. 6 national ranking. Perianu is now 11-1 on the season at No. 1 singles play including wins over eight nationally-ranked players. Most recently Perianu defeated 11th-ranked Petra Dizar of Texas, 6-0, 6-1, and 16th-ranked Jessica Roland of Texas A&M, 6-3,2-6, 6-2.

Sooner Spring Statistics
 Several Sooners own dominant records so far this spring. Freshman Irina Lykina (Kazan, Russia) is now 10-3 on the season in singles play, while in doubles junior Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) and freshman Irina Lykina (Kazan, Russia) own a record of 10-3 at No.2.   OU's duo of freshman Gabby Baker (Gold Coast, Australia) and junior Beth Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) hold a record of 8-3 this spring at No.3.

OU To Host Big 12 Championships
 Oklahoma will host the 2004 Men's and Women's Big 12 Tennis Championships at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Tournament action begins Fri., April 30, and runs through Sun., May 2. Ticket prices are as follows: All session four day pass, $15, single session adult pass, $5, and single session youth/student pass, $2.
