Women's Tennis Set To Face William & Mary and George Mason

 The 32nd-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team (9-1) heads to Virginia this week to take on No. 34 William & Mary (10-10) on Wed. March 17, at the Busch Tennis Courts in Williamsburg, at 4 p.m. EST. The Sooners will then take on George Mason (0-8) Thurs., March 18, at the GMU Tennis Courts in Fairfax at 1 p.m. EST.

First Ever Match Up
 This will be the first time the Sooners have faced William & Mary or George Mason in dual competition.

Sooners Upset No. 22 BYU 4-2
 Oklahoma kept its three-match winning streak alive last week by defeating No. 22 BYU, 4-2, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. In its first home outdoor match of the season the Sooners impressed, taking the doubles point and three of the six singles matches for the victory. Senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania), junior Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) and freshman Gabby Baker (Gold Coast, Australia) all posted singles wins for the Sooners.

Perianu Continues to Defend  No. 7 Ranking
 Senior standout Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) continues to defend  her No. 7 national ranking. Perianu is now 7-1 on the season in singles play including wins over four nationally-ranked players. Most recently Perianu defeated No. 45 Barbora Zahnova of BYU, 6-2, 7-6.

Oklahoma's Undefeated Doubles Team
 OU's undefeated doubles pair of Gabby Baker (Gold Coast, Australia) and Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) moved to 7-0 on the season at the No. 3 spot after last week's play. Baker and Griffin defeated BYU's Rebecca Pike and Nicole Schneider, 8-5. 

Mark Johnson In 16th Year At Oklahoma
      In his 16th season as head coach at Oklahoma, Mark Johnson owns a career record of 240-119 (.668). He has also coached four teams, three singles competitors and four doubles pairs to the NCAA Championships.  Johnson has won five coach of the year honors, including Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1991, 1994 and 1995, Big 12 Tri-Coach of the Year in 1999 and most recently the ITA Central Region Coach of the Year in 2003.

OU To Host Big 12 Championships
 Oklahoma will host the 2004 Men's and Women's Big 12 Tennis Championships at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Tournament action begins Fri., April 30, and runs through Sun., May 2. Ticket prices are as follows: All session four day pass, $15, single session adult pass, $5, and single session youth/student pass, $2.
