OU Mens Tennis Gets Two Wins Over Oklahoma Baptist

The Oklahoma men's tennis team swept by Oklahoma Baptist with two wins to begin its regular season on Fri., Jan. 30, at the Woodlake Racquet Club in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Sooners won the first and second match, 7-0 and 7-0, respectively.
“For an opening match, I thought we did real well,” said head coach Paul Lockwood. “We have a lot of improving to do and a lot to work on in the next couple of months, but I feel we performed very well today.”
Sophomore Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) and freshman newcomer Marek Velicka (Prerov, Czech Republic) posted their first two wins as a doubles team. Velicka also picked up his first No.1 singles win as a Sooner over OBU's Kevan Angel, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Matt Long (Ft. Worth, Texas) and sophomore Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) cruised to two straight victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles play.
Juniors Ondrej Fukala (Prerov, Czech Republic), Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) and Long plus sophomores Lee Gregg (Altus, Okla.) and Ivanov all posted straight-set singles wins for the Sooners.
Oklahoma faces Oral Roberts next Fri., Feb. 6, at the Philcrest Racquet Club in Tulsa, Okla. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m.
