OU Women's Tennis Rolls Over SMU

NORMAN, Okla. - The 29th-ranked Oklahoma women's team overcame a 1-0 deficit after dropping the doubles point to beat SMU, 5-2, Wednesday evening at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The Sooners improved to 16-3 on the season while the Mustangs dropped to 14-10.

OU's 38th-ranked duo of Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) posted the Sooners' first win of the match with an 8-4 triumph over SMU's Kit Carson and Nadia Vaughan. It was their 12th victory at No. 1 this spring. The Mustangs came back to claim the other two doubles positions and take the early lead.

Oklahoma took the lead in with two quick victories in singles courtesy of Perianu and senior Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica). Perianu won her 16th match of the spring at No. 1 in dominating fashion over SMU's Carson, 6-1, 6-0, while Mendieta wasted no time in knocking off Halley Rambally at the sixth position, 6-0, 6-1.

OU sophomore Beth Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) added to the Oklahoma lead defeating Lynsie Jones, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 while Sooner senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) clinched the match at No. 3 with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over 109th-ranked Svetlana Kouzmenko. Saluri finished the Sooner scoring at No. 4 beating SMU's Vaughan, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.

Oklahoma resumes conference play on Saturday, April 12, against the Texas Tech Lady Raiders (2-11, 2-7 Big 12). Match time is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center.
