OU Women's Tennis Cruises Past No. 52 Nebraska

NORMAN, Okla. - The 29th-ranked Oklahoma women's team completed a two-match road trip Saturday morning with a 6-1 win over No. 52 Nebraska at the at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. The Sooners improved to 15-3 on the season and 5-2 in conference play to remain in fourth place in the Big 12 while the Huskers dropped to 10-6 overall and 1-5 in conference.

OU jumped out to another quick lead winning at the No. 1 and 3 doubles positions. OU's 49th-ranked pair of Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) rolled past the Huskers' Leslie Harvey and Gitte Ostermann, 8-1, for their 11th victory at No. 1. Sooners Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) won their seventh match at No. 3 with an 8-1 victory over NU's Jennifer Cremieux and Stacey Tomkiewicz.

The Sooners posted straight-set wins at the top four singles positions. OU's Perianu moved to 15-2 at No. 1 with a straight-set victory over Ostermann, 7-5, 6-4. She is currently 6-1 versus conference opponents this spring. Sooner Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) added to the lead with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over NU's Rose Ketmayura for her ninth win at No. 3 while OU senior Elena Jirnova (Kiev, Ukraine) won at No. 2 against Leslie Harvey, 6-1, 7-5.

OU's Saluri knocked off Pamela Castillejos, 6-4, 7-5, at the fourth slot while Mendieta fell behind a set to NU's Rebecca Harvey at No. 6 but won the final two sets for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.

The Sooners return home this week to face a pair of non-conference opponents at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. OU is scheduled to battle regional foe Oral Roberts (7-8) on Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. while the Sooners have another 6 p.m. start on the following day against SMU (13-8).
