Oklahoma Women's Tennis Team Receives NCAA Bid

NORMAN, Okla. - The 35th-ranked University of Oklahoma women's tennis team was one of the 64 teams selected Wednesday to compete in the 2003 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Team Championships. OU will be hosting the first and second rounds at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla., on May 9-11. It's OU's first trip to the team tournament since the 1997-98 season when the Sooners advanced to the second round of the NCAA regional held in Provo, Utah.

The Sooners (19-6) are slated to play 35th-ranked Alabama (17-7) in the first round on Saturday, May 10. In the other match, seventh-ranked Georgia (16-4) will take on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (17-4).

The winner of Sunday's contest will advance to the final rounds of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships to be held at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla., on May 15-18.
