Women's Tennis Blanks Iowa State

NORMAN, Okla. - The 29th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team blanked conference foe Iowa State, 7-0, Thursday at the Forker Parks in Ames, Iowa. The Sooner women improved to 14-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference play while the Cyclones fell to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in conference.

The Sooners won two of three in doubles to take the early advantage for the 14th time this season. At No. 2, OU senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) and sophomore Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) easily took care of ISU's Elizabeth Chermel and Tara Goedjen, 8-1, for their 10th victory at the second slot. OU's 49th-ranked pair of Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) also posted their 10th victory at No. 1 with an 9-7 win over the Cyclones' duo of Sabrina Evers and Evangelina Soriano.

Oklahoma dominated singles competition taking all six of the matches in straight sets. OU's Perianu moved to 14-2 at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Evers while Sooner senior Elena Jirnova (Kiev, Ukraine) was well enough to compete at No. 2 after sitting out the TCU match and proceeded to beat Goedjen, 6-2, 6-2.

Oklahoma's Bryntesson scored her eighth win at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-1 win against ISU's Courtney Leese and teammate Saluri posted her 13th win on the year with a victory over Soriano, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 5, OU's Griffin posted her third-straight win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory and senior Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) rounded out the Sooner sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6.

The Sooners resume their conference road trip on Saturday, April 5, against the 52nd-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Huskers are 10-5 on the season and 1-4 in conference play. Match time is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
