NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma junior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) was named to the 2003 Big 12 All-Conference first team in singles by the conference office Thursday afternoon. Perianu and sophomore teammate Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) also garnered All-Big 12 first team honors in doubles. Both the singles and doubles teams were selected in a vote by the conference coaches.
It's the second first team singles honor for Perianu, who finished the regular season with a 10-1 mark against conference opponents. Last year's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Perianu has already claimed this season's Big 12 Women's Tennis Position Championship for No. 1 singles and was also named to the 2003 Academic All-Big 12 first team. She has won 10 matches in a row, sports a 20-2 record at No. 1 this spring and moved up to 57th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA ) rankings on Wednesday.
This is the first doubles honor for Perianu and Saluri, who finished second in the conference at No. 1 doubles with a record of 7-2 behind Missouri's Urksa Juric and Katka Sevcikova. The Sooner duo has an overall mark of 20-3 on the year having won seven of their last eight matches and are currently ranked 43rd by the ITA.
