Sooner Women's Tennis Defeated By No. 46 Colorado

NORMAN, Okla. - The 24th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team was edged, 4-3, by No. 46 Colorado Saturday night at the Ranch Country Club in Westminster, Colo. The Sooners dropped to 7-4 in league play and finished the regular season at 18-5 while the Buffaloes improved to 5-6 in the Big 12 and 12-7 overall.

The Sooner ladies got off to a good start winning two out of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At No. 1, OU's 38th-ranked pair of Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) beat CU's Lia Dimingo and Dominique Lemperle, 8-2. It was the duo's 15th win at No. 1 and 20th on the year. Senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) and sophomore Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) notched their 13th win at No. 2 this spring with an 8-4 decision over the Buffaloes' Morgan Sall and Kendra Strandemo to give OU the early lead, 1-0.

Following a CU victory at No. 2 singles, OU's Perianu collected her 20th win at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lemperle. With the victory, Perianu extended her win streak to 10 while improving to 10-1 against conference opponents this season.

OU could only muster one more point as Colorado won the No. 3, 4 and 5 singles positions to secure the victory. Sooner senior Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) finished out play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sall. It was Mendieta's 17th win this spring and 20th on the year.

The Sooner women begin postseason play this week at the Big 12 Championships in Kansas City, Mo. The tournament begins on Thursday, April 24, and runs through Sunday, April 27. at the Plaza Tennis Center.
