Sooner Women's Tennis Falls To No. 37 Baylor

NORMAN, Okla. - The 24th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team was defeated, 5-2, by No. 37 Baylor Thursday evening at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. The Sooners dropped to 7-3 in the league and 18-4 on the season while the Bears stayed atop the Big 12 Conference standings improving to 9-1 and also moved to 11-10 overall.
Baylor took the doubles point early on with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. At No. 1 doubles, OU's 38th-ranked pair of Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) shut out BU's Alison Bradley and Daria Potapova, 8-0. It was the duo's 14th win at No. 1 and 19th on the season.
The Bears clinched the match with wins at the No. 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles positions before Sooner senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) posted OU's first point of the night at No. 3 with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Potapova. The win improved her record at No. 3 to 12-5.
OU's Perianu, ranked 80th by the ITA and this week's Big 12 Co-Women's Tennis Player of the Week, finished out the match at No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Baylor's 89th ranked Vida Mulec. It pushed her win streak to nine and improved her record at No. 1 to 19-2. She also moved to 9-1 against conference foes and 5-1 against ranked opponents.
Oklahoma finishes the regular season Saturday, April 19, at No. 46 Colorado (11-7, 4-6 Big 12). Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m. (MST) at the Kittredge Tennis Courts in Boulder, Colo.
