OU Women's Tennis Downs Texas Tech, 6-1

NORMAN, Okla. - The 29th-ranked Oklahoma women's team beat conference foe Texas Tech, 6-1, Saturday at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The Sooners improved to 17-3 on the season and 6-2 in conference while the Lady Red Raiders dropped to 2-13 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

OU won all three doubles matches for the 11th time this spring. Sooners Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) shut out Tech's Katja Kovacic and Anchen Lombard at the third doubles slot, 8-0, while OU's 38th-ranked duo of Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) posted their 13th victory at No. 1 with an 8-4 win over a Beverly Dawson and Irina Tereschenko. OU's Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) and Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) completed the sweep defeating Kendall Brooks and Tara Browning, 8-4, at No. 2.

OU's Mendieta earned the Sooners' second point at No. 6 singles blanking Tech's Barbara Schraml, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, Bryntesson knocked off Brooks, 6-1, 6-2, for her fourth straight win while Sooner Elena Jirnova (Kiev, Ukraine) defeated Dawson at the second singles slot, 6-1, 6-1.

Saluri garnered her 12th win of the spring with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 4 against Browning and OU's 80th-ranked Perianu won her seventh match in a row with 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) triumph over Tereschenko at No. 1. That victory was her 17th at No. 1 this spring and 22nd overall.

Oklahoma resumes conference play tomorrow (April 13) against the 37th-ranked Missouri Tigers. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. MU is 12-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Tigers' Urska Juric is ranked 34th in singles while she and Katka Sevcikova are currently 15th in doubles.
