OU Women's Tennis Rolls Past No. 60 Kansas State

NORMAN, Okla. - The 44th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team secured their first conference win of the season beating No. 60 Kansas State, 5-2, Saturday at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners improve to 9-1 overall, 1-0 in conference and 3-1 versus ranked opponents while the Wildcats fall to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.

OU overpowered the Cats in doubles winning at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Junior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and sophomore Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) remained unbeaten (6-0) at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 victory over KSU's Jessica Simosa and Andrea Cooper. The duo are ranked 50th by the ITA. Sooners Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) and Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) are 7-0 at No. 2 doubles following their 8-4 win over Kansas State's Paulina Castillejos and Petra Sedlmajerova.

The Sooners posted straight-set victories at the No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles positions to wrap up the victory. OU's Perianu, ranked 74th by the ITA, downed Sedlmajerova at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2, while Sooner senior Elena Jirnova (Kiev, Ukraine) beat Maria Rosenberg, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2. Bryntesson disposed of Simosa, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3 and OU senior Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) defeated Cooper, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6.

The Sooners have a week to prepare for No. 59 Kansas who comes to Norman next Saturday, March 15. The Jayhawks are 5-4 overall and 1-1 conference play. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.
