Men's Tennis Plays Host To Longhorns And Aggies

The Oklahoma men's tennis team (12-5, 0-2 Big 12) returns home this weekend to host a pair of highly-ranked conference opponents at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners have lost three of their last four and are hoping to rebound from a tough road loss to regional foe Wichita State.

The Sooners face the 10th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, March 29, at 1:30 p.m. A&M is riding a 10-match win streak and sports an overall record of 16-5. The Aggies are undefeated in conference play at 1-0 having knocked off Colorado. A&M leads the series 21-11-1. OU last defeated the Aggies in 1997 with a 4-3 victory.

OU is back in action at Noon on Sunday, March 30, against the 17th-ranked Texas Longhorns. UT is currently 8-4 on the year and also 1-0 in conference play. Texas is slated to play No. 68 Oklahoma State on Saturday before coming to Norman to face the Sooners. The Longhorns lead the all-time series 23-2 and have not lost to OU since 1984.

Sooners Go 1-2 On Road Trip
The Sooners went dropped their first match on their California road trip to the Dons of San Francisco, 4-2, at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. USF took the doubles point winning at the No. 1 and 3 spots to take an early lead. The Dons also won at the No. 1, 3 and 5 singles positions to clinch the match. Sooners Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) garnered OU's only points on the afternoon.

OU rebounded the following day against Sacramento State with a 6-1 victory over the Hornets. Oklahoma swept the doubles matches for the seventh time this season en route to their 12th victory on the season.

Six days later, the Sooners also swept the doubles point against regional foe Wichita State to take an early advantage but were unable to win any singles matches as they fell to the Shockers, 6-1.

Leading The Sooners
Leading the Sooners in singles are senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.), who sports a combined record of 11-4 at No. 1 and 2 singles. He has won five out of his last seven matches. Freshman Alexei Ivanov (Izhebsk, Russia), who is undefeated at No. 2 singles (5-0) and is a combined 10-7 at the No. 1 and 2 spots.

Mitchell and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) have combined for a 9-3 mark at No. 1 doubles this spring. The duo has been solid since paring up last Fall. They have an overall record of 16-5 this year.
