OU Women's Tennis Falls To No. 41 Oklahoma State

NORMAN, Okla. - The 30th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team dropped their second conference match to rival No. 41 Oklahoma State, 5-2, Wednesday at the DuBois Tennis Center in Stillwater. The Sooners fell to 3-2 in Big 12 Conference action and 12-3 overall while the Cowgirls improved to 3-3 in conference and 8-5 on the season.

OU's Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) won handily at No. 2 doubles over Cowgirls Gorana Marsic and Ines Furtmayr, 8-3. OSU took the other two doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Sooners Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) and Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) had their five-match win streak snapped with an 8-3 loss to OSU's Erin Pauchnik and Ewa Radzikowska at No. 3.

OU sophomore Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) and senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) fell at No. 1 to OSU's 25th-ranked duo of Linda Faltynkova and Katarzyna Kolodynska, 8-4.

The Sooners posted victories at the No. 1 and 5 singles positions for their only points on the afternoon. Perianu, who is currently ranked 76th in the nation, won in straight sets over OSU's Faltynkova, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 to claim her 12th win at No. 1 singles this spring. Sooner sophomore Griffin provided OU's other point at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Marsic.

The Cowgirls posted straight-set victories at the No. 4 and 5 singles while at No. 3, OU's Bryntesson took the second set to force a third but ultimately fell to Kolodynska, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Sooner senior Elena Jirnova (Kiev, Ukraine) lost a third-set tie-breaker to OSU's Vasylyeva, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6), at No. 2 singles.

The Sooners return to the friendly confines of the OU Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday, March 30, to face their ninth-consecutive ranked opponent in No. 51 TCU. The Horned Frogs are 7-6 overall and 2-1 in Conference USA. Play is scheduled to start at Noon.
