OU Women's Tennis Edges No. 75 UTSA

NORMAN, Okla. - The 44th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team is off to its best start since the 1995-96 campaign following a 4-3 win over No. 75 UT-San Antonio at the UTSA Tennis Complex in San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday. OU improves to 11-1 overall and remains 2-0 in Big 12 Conference play while the Roadrunners fall to 9-3. The Sooners are now 5-1 versus ranked opponents this spring.

The Sooners picked up the doubles point winning all three doubles matches for the eighth time this season. OU's 34th-ranked pair of junior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and sophomore Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) outlasted UTSA's Nicole Bouffler and Paula Erausquin, 9-8, to remain undefeated (8-0) at No.1 doubles. Sooners Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) and Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) improved their record to 8-1 at No. 2 with an 8-6 decision over Svenja Fuhrig and Chantal Lesaar. OU sophomore Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) and senior Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3 over UTSA's Kateryna Romanenko and Nadezda Rossikhina.

Both teams garnered three wins in singles with the Sooners posting victories at No. 1, 3 and 6 to seal the victory. Perianu, ranked 94th by the ITA, won in straight sets over Lesaar, 6-2, 6-4, upping her record to 10-1 at No. 1 singles. Griffin picked up her second-straight win at No. 6 knocking off Romanenko, 6-2, 6-3, while Bryntesson improved her record to 7-1 at No. 3 with a 6-4, 4-6, 2-6 win over Bouffler.

The Sooner women continue their road trip on Thursday, March 20, against Big 12 foe Texas A&M. The Aggies are ranked 30th in the nation with a conference mark of 3-1 and an overall record of 8-6. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Texas A&M Tennis Center in College Station.
