OU Women's Tennis Whips Northern Arizona At UNLV Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. - The 44th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team blew past Northern Arizona, 4-0, Friday afternoon in the first round of the UNLV Women's Tennis Spring Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev. Both morning matches in the tournament were moved to the afternoon because of inclement weather. All four matches were halted when a team reached four points. OU moved to 7-0 on the season while the Lumberjacks fell to 3-9.

The Sooners swept Northern Arizona in doubles taking all three matches. The 50th-ranked duo of junior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and sophomore Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) pushed their record to 4-0 at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 win over Ashley Dille and Marjolein Klompmaker.

OU won the top three positions in singles to clinch the victory. Perianu, ranked 74th by the ITA, won in straight sets over Kirsten Balk, 6-4, 6-2, to push her record to 5-1 at No. 1 singles. Senior Elena Jirnova (Kiev, Romania) beat Klompmaker, 6-2, 6-0, while senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) won in straight sets over Christina Klokins, 6-4, 6-1.

The Sooners advance to the second round to face No. 57 New Mexico who got past Loyola Marymount, 4-1. No. 17 UNLV will take on No. 75 Cal State Northridge in the other semifinal. Matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PST, weather permitting.
