Women's tennis senior falls in final of national tournament

Oklahoma senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) finished up an impressive run Sunday, falling in the championship match of the 2003 ITA National Women's Tennis Indoor Tournament at the Michigan Varsity Tennis Center, in Ann Arbor, Mich. On her way to the final, Perianu defeated three, top-ten nationally ranked players.

Perianu was defeated by the No.1 ranked payer in the country, Agata Cioroch of Georgia, 6-3, 6-1. Cioroch won the event last year and was seeded second for the tournament.

Perianu's performancs at this tournament distinguished her as the first OU women's tennis player to reach the final of this event, or any ITA/NCAA singles event, in head coach Mark Johnson's 15 years at OU.

The tournament concludes the fall portion of the women's tennis schedule. The Sooners will start back up again in the spring with the season opener scheduled for Jan. 30, 2004 against San Diego.
