OU Womens Tennis Set To Compete At The ITA/All American

Two Oklahoma women's tennis players have been selected to compete in the 2003 Riviera/ITA All-American Women's All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and junior Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) will compete in the week long tournament starting Tues., Oct. 7.

Perianu will compete in the singles qualifiying draw and will team team up with Saluri for qualifying doubles. Perianu finished off last season with Big 12 Player of the Year honors and an appearance in the NCAA Individual Championships in both singles and in doubles. Perianu posted an overall singles record of 27-6 last season and a solid 23-4 record in doubles with Saluri.

The tournament is the premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season and features the top players in NCAA Division I tennis. It is an honor to be selected for the tournament, an honor that both Saluri and Perianu are aware of. "It is an honor to be going to this tournament, the best players in the country are there, said Saluri. It is a great opportunity to improve our rankings and set the stage for next season."

Perianu begins the opening round of qualifying singles on Tuesday and later plays with Saluri for the first round of the doubles.
