OU Women's Tennis standout Anda Perianu claims two more victories
The University of Oklahoma women's tennis senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) added another two singles victories to her already impressive record Friday in the 2003 ITA Central Regional Championships at the Eccles Tennis Center, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The two victories now place her in the quarter finals.
The second-seeded Perianu cruised to victory in her first match, crushing BYU's Lauren Jones 6-3, 6-0. She was pushed harder in the round of sixteen but still managed to claim a straight-set victory over ninth-seeded Katka Sevcikova of Missouri 6-4, 7-5. Perianu now faces Erin Polowski of Boise State in the quarter finals Saturday at 9 a.m.
In doubles action, Perianu and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) showed why they are the number two seed of the tournament. The OU duo disposed of New Mexico State's team of Isabella Mignot and Lejila Porobic 8-3. They then went on to defeat Jana Karaskova and Katia Kolodynska of Oklahoma State 8-4.
Junior Heather Saluri fell in main draw singles action Friday, in the round of 32. Saluri was defeated by top seeded Urska Juric of Missouri 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, junior Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) and freshman Amanda Pratzel (St. Louis, Mo.) also fell in the round of 32 to the Missouri pair of Hana Kraftova and Lucie Ruskova 8-5.
Singles play resumes Saturday at 9 a.m and doubles action is set for 3.p.m.
