Bethany Griffin Leads Sooners At Air Force Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. - OU sophomore Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) won her fourth-straight match of the weekend to claim the flight two singles title at the Falcon Fall Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Sunday. Overall, the Sooners went 4-2 in singles and 0-2 in doubles on the final day of play. The Sooners competed in a field that included Colorado, Denver, Air Force, Northern Illinois, Wyoming, Texas-El Paso and Washington State.
In the flight one singles division, senior Elena Jirnova (Kiev, Ukraine) lost to finish in fourth place while senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) was victorious to finish 13th. Also in flight two, Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) won in straight sets for a fifth-place finish. In flight three, freshman Joi-Lee Beachler (Oklahoma City, Okla.) came up short on the final day of action but finished in fourth while sophomore Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) won to finish fifth.
In flight one of doubles, Braver and Jirnova lost by default to place eighth while Bryntesson and Griffin didn't play their scheduled match. In flight two, Saluri and Beachler lost a close match to finish fourth.
Next up for OU, junior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) will compete at the All-American Invitational in Los, Angeles, Calif., on Oct. 8-13.
