OU Women's Tennis Finishes First Day At Air Force Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team went 5-1 in singles action and 3-2 in doubles play at the Falcon Fall Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Friday. The Sooners are competing in a field that includes Colorado, Denver, Air Force, Northern Illinois, Wyoming, Texas-El Paso and Washington State.

In singles action, senior Elena Jirnova (Kiev, Ukraine), sophomores Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa), Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) and Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) and freshman Joi-Lee Beachler (Oklahoma City, Okla.) were all first-round winners in their respective flights.

In doubles, Braver and Jirnova went 1-1 while senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) and Griffin were defeated in the first round of the winner's bracket but came back with a victory in the first round of the loser's bracket. Saluri and Beachler won impressively in the first round of the second flight.

Singles is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, while doubles will start at 3:15 p.m.
