OU's Perianu Ends Season At The NCAA Individual Tennis Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma sophomore Anda Perianu was defeated by Florida's Jessica Lehnhoff, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, on Tuesday, May 21, in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Individual Tennis Championships at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif.
In her first season as a Sooner, Perianu finished 22-7 in singles play and was ranked as high as No. 73 in the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll. Perianu won her last seven matches of the season before falling to Lehnhoff in the NCAA's. After her stellar season, Perianu was selected the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, named to the All-Big 12 Team and was a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Lehnhoff was 31-3 overall on the season and ranked No. 1 in the country heading into the NCAA Tournament. The Gator senior was a perfect 10-0 in Southeastern Conference play and helped lead her team to a 24-2 record. She was recently named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Senior Player of the Year.
