Women's Tennis Drops Match To No. 14 Texas

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team was defeated by No. 14 Texas, 6-1, on Saturday, March 30, at the Santa Fe Country Club in Oklahoma City. The match was scheduled to be played at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center, but was moved because of rain. The No. 44 Sooners drop to 11-5 on the year, 1-4 in the Big 12 Conference. The Longhorns remain unbeaten in league play, 8-0, and improve to 13-4 on the season.

The Sooners' Anda Perianu picked up the only singles victory at the No. 1 spot, defeating Texas' Vladka Uhlirova, 6-4, 6-7, 10-6. Perianu moves to 15-5 on the season at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Heather Saluri, who is 12-4 in singles play, lost a hard fought match at No. 2 singles, falling to the Longhorn's Kaysie Smashey, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Bethany Griffin and Saluri teamed up for Oklahoma's only doubles win, defeating Ziva Grasic and Uhlirova, 8-6, at the No. 1 spot.

Oklahoma returns to action Thursday, April 4, against Baylor. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m. in Waco, Texas.
