Oklahoma Women's Tennis Rolls Over Minnesota

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team defeated Minnesota, 5-2, on Sunday, Feb.10, at the Sante Fe Country Club in Edmond, Okla. The Sooners improve to 4-0 and are off to their best start since winning theri first 10 matches during the 1995-96 season. Minnesota drops to 2-4 on the year with the loss.

Oklahoma sophomore Anda Perianu and freshmen Heather Saluri, Bethany Griffin and Jessica Braver won their singles matches. The duo of Griffin and Saluri lost a hard fought No. 1 doubles match, 9-7. The Sooners rebounded with junior Annette Bryntesson and Braver teaming up to win No. 2 doubles, 8-6, and Perianu and junior Elena Jirvona winning No. 3 doubles 8-3 to take the match.

"I was really pleased with our performance," said head coach Mark Johnson. "We played very well against a good Big Ten Conference school."

Oklahoma is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 16, against St. Louis. Match time is set for 3 p.m. at the Sante Fe Country Club in Oklahoma City.
