NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team went 4-2 in singles and 3-1 in doubles at the Omni Hotels Central Region Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Friday. The tournament is being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center with a field including players from Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Creighton, Denver, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Montana, Montana State, Nebraska, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Southwest Missouri State, Saint Louis, Tulsa, Utah, Utah State, Wichita State.
In the singles main draw, junior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) reached the quarterfinals after going 2-0 on the day. Senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) reached the quarterfinals of the singles backdraw on the strength of two victories. Elsewhere in the singles backdraw, senior Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) and sophomore Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) were eliminated for tournament play in the round of 32.
In doubles, Perianu and sophomore Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) went 2-0 to reach the quarterfinals. Bryntesson and Griffin won their first match of the day but lost in the round of 16.
Play resumes at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
