BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team lost its final regular season dual to the Colorado Buffaloes, 6-0, Saturday at the Kittredge Tennis Complex. OU finishes at 2-10 overall and 0-8 in Big 12 Conference play. CU improved to 11-9 overall and 2-5 in league action.
Oklahoma captured the first set in the top three singles matches but was unable to hold on as Colorado came back to win all three points. Senior Julio Martinez, playing in his final regular season match, lost 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, to Maciej Dilaj at No. 1 singles. Sophomores Matt Ogle and Chris Mitchell fell at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Mirko Jovanovic downed Ogle, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Justin Hunter edged Mitchell, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Buffs earned straight-set wins at the remaining singles slots for the 6-0 victory. By mutual decision, both coaches agreed not to play the doubles portion of the match due to unfavorable weather conditions. The temperature slipped into the high 30s and it was beginning to rain.
The Sooners travel to compete in the Big 12 Conference Championship in Waco, Texas next week. The event runs Thursday, April 26 through Sunday, April 29 and is hosted by Baylor University.
