NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team fell, 7-0, to fourth-ranked Texas A&M Saturday at the Westwood Tennis Courts in Norman. OU dropped to 1-6 on the season and is still looking for its first Big 12 Conference win. A&M improved to 16-2 overall and 3-0 in league play.
The Aggies lived up to their No. 4 ranking, sweeping all six singles matches. Sophomore Matt Ogle delivered OU's closest match of the day, forcing Keith From to three sets before falling, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. Senior Julio Martinez lost Shuon Madden, who is ranked No. 26 in the nation, 6-3, 6-2.
Texas A&M captured the doubles point, winning all three matches. At the No. 2 spot, Tres Davis and Ryan Newport edged Martinez and freshman Evan Davis, 9-7. The Aggies are the third-straight ranked team Oklahoma has faced and the highest ranked opponent of the season.
The Sooners now take a two-match break from conference play as they are scheduled to play on Cowley County on Tuesday, April 3, at 1 p.m. and then Texas-Arlington, Saturday, April 7, at 2 p.m. Both contests will be played at Westwood.
