NEW ORELANS - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to No. 42 Tulane, 6-1, Saturday in New Orelans at the Goldring Tennis Complex. The Sooners are now 1-1 on the season.
Senior Julio Martinez defeated Jorge Lievano in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, giving the Sooners their lone point in the match. At the No. 1 slot, sophomore Tobias Kronlein lost a 6-4, 6-3, decision to Michael Kogan, while Matt Ogle fell, 6-3, 6-2, to Mikko Vilijanen in No. 2 singles action. Sophomore Chris Mitchell was edged by Mattias Westerberg in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6, at the No. 4 spot. Freshman Evan Davis lost 6-2, 6-2, to Goran Vasiljevic at No. 5 singles.
Tulane claimed victories in the doubles matches. In the top doubles match, Kogan and Vilijanen, who are ranked No. 14 in the country, beat Kronlein and Mitchell, 8-2. Victor Romero and Lievano dropped Ogle and Martinez, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles
Oklahoma returns to action Feb. 16 when it hosts Wichita State in Norman at the Westwood Tennis Courts.
