Women's Tennis Team Wins Two Singles, One Doubles Match

NORMAN, Okla. - In its second day of competition, the University of Oklahoma women's tennis team won two singles matches and a doubles match to advance to the second round of play at the Omni Hotels Central Region Tennis Championships, in Tulsa, Okla.
Freshmen Anda Perianu and Elena Jirnova survived the first round of the singles main draw with victories over Utah and Oklahoma State. Perianu handily swept Utah's Kassie Kasteler (6-3, 6-0), while Jirnova outlasted OSU's Katie Vasylyeva (4-6, 6-4, 7-6). The duo went on to defeat Oral Robert's Marlena Macioliek and Isabelle Savoy, 8-2, in the main draw of doubles action.
The Sooners return to action on Friday, Oct. 26, at 9 a.m. for singles and doubles action at the Tulsa Southern Tennis Club. The duo of freshmen Heather Saluri and Bethany Griffin had a bye in the first round of doubles. Junior Annette Bryntesson and freshman Jessica Braver will be competing against Utah State's Sarah Lowe and Caroline Pollock.
