Women's Tennis Falters In Qualifying Rounds

NORMAN, Okla. - In the qualifying rounds of play on Wednesday, Oct. 24, two players from the University of Oklahoma women's tennis team failed to advance to the main draw at the 2001 Omni Hotels Central Regional Tennis Champhionships in Tulsa, Okla.
Freshmen Jessica Braver started the day off with a victory over Oklahoma State's Ashleigh Dolman (2-6, 7-5, 6-3) but lost in the second round to Iowa State's Sabrina Evers (6-1, 6-1). Freshman Bethany Griffin lost her opening round match to Air Force's Laura Nigro (6-3, 2-6, 6-0), dropping her out of singles play.
Action continues on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Tulsa Southern Tennis Club. Freshmen Anda Perianu and Elena Jirnova will be teaming up for doubles play, along with the duo of Braver and junior Annette Bryntesson. Freshmen Heather Saluri and Griffin will make up the third doubles team to compete on Thursday. Perinau and Jirnova will be playing singles matches as well. Start time is set for 8 a.m.
