Women's Golf Team Captures First Tournament Title

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team captured its first tournament title of the year at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational. The tournament, which was held at the Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan., was condensed due to heavy rain into an 18-hole format on Tuesday. The Sooners, behind three top five individual finishes, concluded play three strokes ahead of Iowa State.

Sophomore Lisa Meldrum led the Sooners for the second consecutive tournament with a score of 73. Meldrum finished one stroke behind Julie Hary in second place. Sophomore Hope Edge finished fifth with a score of 75 and junior Allison Johnson finished ninth after carding a 77. Freshman Emily Milberger shot an 81 for 31st place and senior Jennifer Tannehill carded an 82 for 38th place. Senior Wendy Martin, who competed as an individual, carded a 74 for a third-place finish.

The Sooners will next compete Oct. 26-28 at the Alabama Capstone Intercollegiate.
