LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team placed third at the NMSU Intercollegiate in Las Cruces. N.M., on Wednesday. The Sooners finished 11 strokes behind Arizona State and Baylor, who eventually won the tournament after a one-hole tiebreaker. Sophomore Lisa Meldrum fired one-under scores of 71 during all three rounds of tournament play, good for second place behind Jimin Kang of Arizona State.

"This was a great tournament," said Meldrum. "We all did very well, and I was happy with the way I played. It was nice to get back to the normal format after last week at the Big 12 Invitational. I'm really looking forward to next week."

Meldrum carded a 213, while junior Allison Johnson and freshman Emily Milberger shot 223 to tie for 12th place. Sophomore Hope Edge placed 15th with a score of 224, and two strokes behind her was senior Jennifer Tannehill, who placed 23rd. Marsha Gonzaga, who competed as an individual, finished in 75th place with a score of 258.

"We did really well," said head coach Carol Ludvigson. "It took us some time to get adjusted to the green speed. Everyone did well and we managed the course and ourselves very well. We shot three low scores and we were happy to throw out a score of 75. That's what I dream about."

Oklahoma will conclude the tournament tomorrow morning with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m.
