PROVO, Utah - niversity of Oklahoma tennis players defeated Weber State, 29-25, last night in the opening round of the WingspanBank.com/ World Team Tennis Regional Championships at the BYU Indoor courts. Representatives from both the men's and women's squads are competing for the Sooners.
The tournament included men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The scoring for each category goes to six, using no-ad scoring. The total number of sets each team wins are added to attain a final score.
The Sooners tallied wins in men's singles, 6-4, women's singles, 6-5, men's doubles, 6-5 and in mixed doubles, 6-5. OU's only loss came in a 6-5 Weber State win at women's doubles.
Oklahoma will take on host BYU in the finals Saturday at 3 p.m. (MST). The regional winner will advance to compete in the national team championships in October at Stanford.
