Sooner Men's Tennis Splits in Navy Invitational

University of Oklahoma men's tennis players were in action against Virginia, Illinois State and host Navy. The Sooners picked up wins over Virginia, 5-1, and Navy, 5-1 and lost to Illinois State, 5-1, this weekend.

Sophomores Tobais Kronlein and Matt Ogle and senior Julio Martinez led the team with singles wins over Virginia and Navy. Sophomore Chris Mitchell easily defeated Navy's Jim Shaugnessy, 6-1, 6-3, for his lone singles victory.

Kronlein and Mitchell teamed up for an 8-5 win over Virginia's Tom Croker and Brian Hunter at No. 1 doubles while Ogle and Martinez pulled out a 9-8 victory over Jason Romesburg and Mike Duquette at the No.2 spot.

OU split matches in doubles action against Navy. Kronlein and Mitchell stopped Chris McGrath and Grant Carona, 8-4. Ogle and Martinez dropped an 8-3 decision to Heath Marshall and Kurrle.

Martinez and Ogle teamed up to win Oklahoma's only point against Illinois State at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, over Brent Steven and Albert Piasecki.
