AUSTIN, Texas - The 47th-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team was defeated by the ninth-ranked Texas Longhorns, 6-1, at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas, today. The loss was the second for the Sooners in as many days and drops OU to 0-2 in the Big 12 Conference and 10-7 overall. The Longhorns are in first place in the Big 12 with a record of 4-0 in conference play and 13-2 for the season
Texas swept doubles action, 8-5, 8-2 and 8-3, to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Sooners only point in the match came at the No. 4 position in singles competition where senior Rick Warren defeated Jean Simon in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3. At the No. 1 slot, senior Dusty Beard lost a highly contested match to UT's Brandon Hawk, 7-5, 7-6.
The Sooners return home after a long road trip and look to bounce back against regional foe, No. 46 Tulsa on Wednesday, March 29. This will be the second match this season against the Golden Hurricane. The first contest between the two teams was at the H.E.B. Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas where TU won, 5-2. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the Westwood Tennis Courts in Norman.
