Men's Tennis Falls To No. 13 Texas A&M

College Station, Texas - The 47th-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team was defeated by the 13th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, 4-3, at the Varsity Tennis Center in College Station, Texas, today. The loss snapped the Sooners' four-match winning streak and dropped their record to 0-1 in the Big 12 Conference and 10-6 overall. The Aggies improve to a 6-4 season record and are 2-0 in the conference.

A&M swept the doubles action to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead in the match. The No. 1 doubles position match was highlighted by two nationally-ranked teams going head-to-head. A&M's 15th-ranked duo of Dumitru Caradima and Shuon Madden ousted OU seniors Charlie Roberson and Rick Warren, 8-3. Roberson and Warren are currently ranked No. 52 nationally.

At the No. 2 doubles slot, senior Dusty Beard and freshman Tobias Kronlein were edged by Cody Hubbell and Jarin Skube, 9-7.

The Sooners pulled out victories in three of the six singles matches. Junior Julio Martinez beat Aggie Ryan Newport, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. At the No. 5 position, Warren rebounded in the third set to oust Skube, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2. Kronlein also won in straight sets over Juan Aramburo, 7-5, 7-6, at the No. 6 position. The Aggies claimed all three of the top positions in singles action to clinch the victory.

The Sooners continue conference action tomorrow when they travel to Austin, Texas to face the No. 9 Texas Longhorns. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
