NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team defeated Northeastern State 7-0, 7-0 in a double-header Sunday afternoon at the Westwood Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The Sooners push their record to 4-3 on the year. Northeastern State drops to 2-2.
In the first match, the Sooners wrapped up the doubles action quickly winning 8-0, 8-2, and 8-0. In singles action, junior Julio Martinez was tested at the number four position against NSU's Emilio Lopez but was able to pull out the victory, 6-1, 6-7, 7-6. OU won each of the other singles matches in straight sets.
In the second match of the afternoon, Freshmen Matt Ogle and Chris Mitchell each picked up their first victory in singles action. Ogle's opponant, Nikola Ojdanic, retired after losing the first set, 6-2. Mitchell was victorious over Billy Popejoy, 6-1, 6-2. In doubles action, the Sooners won two out of three matches to win the doubles point and complete the shutout.
Next up, the Sooners travel to Corpus Christi, Texas, to compete in the Corpus Christi Invitational on Friday, March 3. OU will be among 16 teams competing in the three-day tournament.
